Franklin

Serving as the Parish (county) seat of St. Mary, the city of Franklin is perhaps one of the most scenic of tourist attractions in Louisiana. Many antebellum homes made from cypress wood grace Bayou Teche in and around the community.

Franklin residents have traditionally depended on the natural resources and rich lands of the area for their livelihood. Sugar cane crops and seafood, including the Cajun delicacy crawfish, have provided many families with an abundant living since the early 1950’s.

Recreational facilities include a sports complex with four baseball fields, a tennis court and a jogging track. An additional four baseball fields and five tennis courts, along with one public swimming pool, are also at the disposal of citizens. Two recreation centers are also located within the corporate limits.
